Our exclusive retreat has two comfortable and welcoming rooms to choose from.
Both rooms benefit from a large, private en-suite bathroom and stunning views of the Derbyshire Dales and Matlock. Escape your busy life by immersing yourself in the peaceful, slow paced countryside environment and the retreat that perfectly matches that atmosphere.

What makes us different from other B&Bs is our aim to help people to refresh their mind and their body, and leave the stress behind for a few days. However, we also seek to encourage a long lasting change in our guests’ lifestyle and wellbeing, thus every guest can request a complimentary nutrition consultation during their stay.

Every aspect of the property has been designed and renovated to create a peaceful and calm atmosphere for our guests. At Nutrition and Retreat, you can spend your stay as you please; whether that’s staying at the property, relaxing outside in the garden whilst admiring the views, or exploring the plethora of walking trails and fascinating museums our local area offers.

Reviews from guests who enjoyed their stay with us

Alan Bell

We had a wonderful stay at Nutrition Retreat, with Stuart and Marta who were warm and welcoming and very knowledgeable about Derbyshire and the Peak District. They did absolutely everything to ensure our relaxation, comfort and nutrition.
It’s a great place for a break from work and a complete reset and we look forward to another visit.

Absolutely loved our stay at Marta & Stuart’s B&B. The breakfast was nutritious and yummy, the bed was super comfortable (we even asked for the brand of the mattress and are now planning to change ours at home!) Stuart picked us up and dropped us off at Matlock station and he even offered to pick up us after our day of cycling (at the nearby Monsal trail) (though we eventually powered through and rode up the hill with our bicycles and didn’t take up the offer). The house was located in a quiet neighbourhood, Stuart and Marta had 6 hens (and hence the freshest of eggs for our omelettes!) and a nice garden of veg and herbs (also ingredients in our breakfast!)
We went for a day of trail walking nearby on the first day and went cycling at Cromford and the Monsal trail on the second day. We would love to go visit Chatsworth House as well but didn’t have enough time – will leave that to our next visit! 🙂 Definitely returning!

Perfect for a relaxing getaway and in an ideal spot to explore the area. Marta and Stuart are so lovely, welcoming and knowledgeable, I could chat to them for hours. The accommodation is beautifully decorated, spacious and comfy, I had a great nights sleep. There were some thoughtful treats left in the room and the breakfast was delicious too. I’d be happy to stay again.

What to Do in Matlock?

Matlock was named the TOP 10 most searched UK smaller holiday destination in 2021. And the number one smaller non-coastal destination with 2,160 searches a month. This is something that as locals we are very proud of and happy to share with the visitors.

Whether you are visiting the town for a week or for a weekend, there is always something to do. Matlock was once known for its hydro and spa treatments, which John Smedley developed in the 19th century. Now it is a perfect scenic location for exploring Derbyshire and the Peak District. Smedley’s Hydro is towering over the market town and houses Derbyshire County Council. On the opposite side, Gothic-style Riber Castle sits on top of a hill and offers excellent walks around and views of the Dales. In the centre of the town, there is an award-winning Hall Leys Park with a boating lake, tennis courts, cafes and riverside walks. A market offers fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, pastries, gin and much more in Hall Leys Park near Crown Square every Wednesday morning. What brings many to this part of Derbyshire is Matlock Bath, a seaside resort that lost its way and found itself at the foot of the Peak District National Park. At the weekend hundreds of motorcycles flock here to flood the town with a roar of engines. If you are here around September and October, Matlock Illuminations is the main attraction with lights and Venetian boats on the river.

To help you get the most from your stay, here are a few of our favourite things to do in and around Matlock.

Walks and attractions for different levels of ability

Donkey behind a wall
Lumsdale Valley and Falls
High Tor
Heights of Abraham
Peak Rail
Matlock Hall Leys Park
Chatsworth House
Bakewell
Cromford Canal
Black Rocks
Cromford Mills
Crich Tramway Village

Relax or Explore, our location is perfect for both

The natural beauty around Matlock is ready to nurture tranquillity. We can recommend a range of activities for every feeling and every occasion. The main attraction is a plethora of walking trails, but we are also very lucky to have plentiful of historical villages, stately homes and fascinating museums. Within easy reach, you can access splendid Chatsworth House and Gardens, Haddon Hall, Bolsover Castle and Kedleston Hall. Towns and villages worth visiting outside of Matlock include Ashbourne, Belper, Bakewell, Eyam, Buxton and Matlock Bath of course. Walks worth considering include Monsal Trail, Ilam Park to the Stepping Stones in Dovedale and Tissington Trail. Local attractions also include Crich Tramway Museum, Carsington Water, Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, The Heights of Abraham and Castleton Caves to name but a few.

Our local produce, small businesses and the warmth of people add to the sense of harmony and luxury you will find with us. Nearby there is a range of small businesses and markets offering unique jewellery and pottery, local honey, meats and cheeses. There are many breweries and distilleries in the area where you can sample beer, wine, whiskey and gin.
